August is my birthday month, but at my age it isn't such a big deal for me anymore. My niece, Ryane, however, will be turning 5 on the same day as I'm turning xx and that is a big deal. I won't be able to celebrate with her on the day itself, but later in the month I will be conducting Auntie Sue's Whirlwind Rugrat Spoiling Tour and visiting her and her brother and sister in Winnipeg for a few days after spending a few days in Toronto with my 20-month old nieces. It is going to be a lot of fun.
In between my travels and work (yeah, I still gotta work) -- I am looking forward to reading the following books:
- For Reading Groups:
- Still Alice by Lisa Genova
- Candide by Voltaire
- Kings of the Earth by Jon Clinch (I saw that one of the book groups at my library will be discussing this on Sept.1, and since it's been sitting on my shelf for a few months I thought this would be a good opportunity to read it)
- For Reading Challenges:
- Ornament of the World by Maria Rosa Menocal
- Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart
- The Day the Falls Stood Still by Cathy Marie Buchanan
- For Review:
- An Accident in August by Laurence Cosse
- The Very Thought of You by Rosie Alison
- Just My Type by Simon Garfield
Have a great month!
I'm with you, Suzanne. The sooner this summer heat wave stops, the better. I'm a Fall girl myself. August is a good month for birtdays--my son's is in the middle & he'll be 19 (which means I'm WAY older than I ought to be). Happy birthday early!
ReplyDeleteIt has been a crazy hot summer -- and as much as I enjoy the time off, I can see that my kids are getting itchy for their routines again. I hope you enjoy Candide -- it's a fave of mine.
ReplyDeleteOur summer hasn't been hot. I want more sun, more sitting outside. Today was finally a good day, after a lot of rain.
ReplyDeleteYour August reads look good! I hope you have fun on your trip.
Oy, this heat has been terrible! Sad to say that my wonderful pool has aged out after this year, so battling the heat will be even harder. I admire your planning skills! I can't think that far ahead and am incurably spontaneous when it comes to reading. Candide is buried in my TBR list somewhere--can't wait to hear your thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteThe heat is awful, I'm not a fan. Summer at Tiffany is a sweet book, I hope you like it!
