It's Monday -- What are you Reading?

It's Monday - What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at bookjourney to allow us to share with others in the book-loving cyberworld what is on our reading plates.

It's been a while since I've participated in memes but I'm back!

I won't go into all the books I've read since my last Monday post -- I can't remember any of them being overly wonderful anyways -- but in the last week I've read:
  Books in progress:
  Up next:
  • The Tower, The Zoo and The Tortoise by Julia Stuart
  • The Carrion Vine by Erane Elizabeth Scully.  I just attended a reading given by the author and I cannot wait to read this book.  It is an account of her and her mother's time in a Siberian prison camp during World War II; her mother kept a secret journal during this time and made her daughter promise to make their story public.  Mrs Scully is well into her eighties and this is her first published work so I can't but admire her tenacity.

What are you reading this week?

  1. Such an interesting collection of books! I have never been part of a book club. Do you enjoy them? My Monday report is here. Happy reading!

  2. I LOVED In the Heart of the Sea. There was an American Experience on PBS some time back that featured Philbrick -- it was about the American whaling industry. The link's here if you're interested.

  3. I've heard good things about the Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise. Hope you like it.

  4. Except for Finn, all these books are new to me. Hope they are good.

BTW, please e-mail me your address at aronebur at g mail dot com so I can mail you the Zusak book.

  5. Kathy -- I enjoy book clubs because they get me to read books I wouldn't normally pick up on my own (In the Heart of the Sea was a perfect example). And it's always great to talk with other book lovers.

Nancy -- Thank you for the link, I will check it out. I have to say that I was cheering for the whales while I was reading, but it was an interesting book.

Heather -- I've heard that if you like The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and/or Major Pettigrew's Last Stand then you will love The Tower, The Zoo and The Tortoise. I LOVED both of those books so this one should be a good one as well.

BookQuoter -- *duh* I guess you would be needing my address wouldn't you? Sorry -- sending an e-mail to you right away!

  6. I have always wanted to read the adventures of Huck Finn. Still need to. Enjoy the books this week :D

What do you think? Good or bad, I'd love to hear from you (but be nice - I'm sensitive!)
