It's Monday - What are you Reading?

It's Monday - What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at bookjourney to allow us to share with others in the book-loving cyberworld what is on our reading plates.

  This week I finished:
  I abandoned:
  Books in Progress:
Yesterday I finally got around to booking tickets for a few events at The Chicago Humanities Festival in early November.  The event I'm most looking forward to is a reading of selections from the 2010 Best European Fiction anthology (I've had this on my shelf for several months, so this will give me the motivation to finally read it!).  I also got a ticket for an event called Jane Austen and the Body - a panel discussing bodily references in her novels.  Is anyone in the Chicagoland area going to these or any other Festival events?

  1. Oh, you abandoned two books? Will you be writing a review telling us why? I do wonder! I don't know the books but I've heard of Parrot and would love to read "bad" reviews of it as well as good ones.

  2. It's always a dilemma for me to abandon a book. I always feel that maybe I will miss the magnificent ending that will revive the book:)

  3. Oh dear, that's too bad about abandoning two books. Sometimes I guess it comes down to different tastes or moods. Here's my Monday meme. Cheers!

  4. I am waiting to read A Secret Kept, my mom has the book right now! I'll have to check out the Chicago event as it is not too far away from me.

  5. Loved your review on A Secret Door. I'm going to look for that author my next trip to the bookstore...can't wait! Thank you.

I'm currently reading "Rain Dance" by author Joy Dekok. It's a Christian fiction book about two women that forge a friendship over uncommon ground. One is dealing with infertility and the other abortion. It's a really beautiful story.

  6. I absolutely hate it when I can't finish a book! As BookQuoter said, I'm always thinking I'll miss the big bang, but sometimes I just can't keep going with it! I've got A Secret Kept on my list to read!

  7. I never know what's going on in Chicago. I feel so very "out of the loop" (pun intended). At any rate, off to see what that site says about the Humanities Festival.

  8. Judith et al: You gave me an idea for a post about abandoning books -- watch for it!

Nise and Rebecca -- let me know if you will be attending any events at The Humanities Festival.

What do you think? Good or bad, I'd love to hear from you (but be nice - I'm sensitive!)
