.... and I'm not entirely proud of it, but look at what I picked up at a nearby closing Borders location at 50% off (plus an additional 10% with my Borders Rewards card):
Fiction seems to be the only section with any significant inventory left, which is probably why it has been marked down further. There were a number of titles with many copies that obviously couldn't sell even at half price (Lisa Rinna wrote a novel?), but there many gems that bibliophiles and moderate book snobs like me can appreciate (I was especially excited about the new Doctor Zhivago translation)
My name is Suzanne and I'm a bookaholic, but I just couldn't pass up on such a good deal.
What a great selection, Suzanne! I can see how you couldn't walk by without buying something. Is there a Eastern European theme there?
ReplyDeleteI've only read Snow, which I liked but found it quite a difficult book. You're bound to have some great reading hours with these new acquisitions!
Impressive finds! I got Middlemarch recently, too, and am looking forward to it. I read a novella by George Eliot in university & it was terrific.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I visited Prague in 2008. I have two books about the city. One is a regular travel guide, but the second one is a beautiful book about historical architecture.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading!
Judith -- hmmm, it does look like I was in an Eastern European frame of mind when I was browsing, doesn't it? The only Pamuk I've read so far is The Museum of Innocence which was really good.
ReplyDeleteTeacher/Learner: I've only read Silas Marner by Eliot which was ok but I've heard nothing but good things about Middlemarch.
Deborah: Prague is on my travel bucket list; the book I picked up is a novel set in the city.
I have avoided this sale, as I am just liable to walk out with bags full of books that I have little space for, but I love looking over what everyone is getting! You did very well over there!
ReplyDeleteYou did really well! I have Snow as an alternate for my official TBR Pile Challenge list, I'll check back to see if you read it before I do, and post my thoughts if the reverse is true. I have been trying to stay away from the Borders clearances but now I might have to at least stop by and see what might be there... 50% off + 10% w/Borders rewards card is a really good deal... (I guess I'm a book addict! :) )
ReplyDeleteGreat finds. Can't beat that. Don't know why I avoided the sale too, just like Zibilee.
ReplyDeletegreat books! I really loved Middlemarch. So dense and full. I have successfully avoided bookstores lately...but I can't get away from the online ordering. It's just so easy and convenient....
ReplyDeleteAwesome choices. As a fellow bookaholic, I completely approve, and hope my comment enables you to continue to add to the TBR pile :)
